"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

Ground Dog Day

When we went outside mid-morning to feed the birds....

Lola didn't cast a shadow...

and neither did Ruth.

Later, the sun peeked out for a few minutes but now it's hidden behind cloud. Snow is headed our way.

Yesterday I kept busy with lunching and shopping.

Last year I made an ironclad rule for myself: I would purchase no more black clothing. I have quite enough of it. My wardrobe isn't exclusively black, far from it, but....

In just the past six days, I've broken my rule three times. Over the last fortnight, four times. Earlier this week I bought an all-black top. Last night at the mall in the Big City (where everything seems to be selling at a 75% discount) I bought two tops, mostly black with white decoration. I tried to compensate at Coldwater Creek and elsewhere by getting a few more things in vibrant colours. (I suspect some of the snazzier looking women in the Legislature shop at Coldwater Creek.)

Talking over my problem with the girls this morning, I got blank looks. Ruth and Lola are of the opinion that mostly black with white accents is beyond doubt the most fashionable and elegant choice.

They wear it every day.
