"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

More Monday-ness

Around midday I headed down to the dock. It's far from swimming weather, and the mornings and evenings are cool, so I'm not spending any time at the waterside except for photographic purposes. But today I was on a mission. This is the season when the wife of my fish Walter spawns, and for a few weeks thereafter he guards the spawn.

And I was rewarded with my very first Walter sighting!

While he's on guard duty I keep a container of worms on hand to feed him. I'm pretty sure he was expecting a hand-out but...I haven't bought bait yet.

During our touching reunion, the girls were doing their thing up by the house.

Jewel worked on her suntan.

Ruth worked on her cuteness. In fact, she's "pleading cute" so I'll take her for a walk.

We came back inside for an afternoon of working (me) and sleeping (them). They appear to be comatose on the sofa. But I know that when, an hour from now, I suddenly say, "Do you want to go for a walk?" they will instantly hurtle towards the hook by the door where their leashing hang.

Their vocabulary is limited. They recognise their names and (usually) come when called. And the very special words--"eat," "outside," and "walk"--unfailingly cause great excitement!
