"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

History Geek-ism

The Carousel of Life carried me to Vermont, where I spent 2 delightful days touring the Shelburne Museum and Farm.

I also had a chance to see Lake Champlain. (And, apparently, Champ, it's resident Nessie-type monster, who generously popped up as I was taking this photo.)

Now I want the t-shirt!

Some scenes from the Shelburne.

The Webb House, built to house the Park Avenue apartment and collection of English & French antiques & French Impressionist paintings belonging to the foundress of the museum.

The formal Bostwick Gardens.

Historic weaponry collection.

Antique squirrel cage. "A jail for squirrels," my companion called it.

Motif from French wallpaper.

A basket phaeton in one of the 2 carriage and sleigh museums.

The bandbox room. There were about twice this many bandboxes on display.

We also saw the printing press shop, the weaving house, the doll and dollhouse and automata collections, the porcelain, the household items (cookware) the farm implements, the stonewall building displays, several 18th century dwellings and furnishings, and the steamship Ticonderoga, which bears a striking resemblance to our own M.S. Mt. Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Fresh adventures coming soon.
