"It was imprudent of us, in the first place, to become authors. We could have become something regular, but we managed not to.
We were lucky, but we were also determined." Roy Blount Jr

"I don’t change the facts to enhance the drama. I think of it the other way round, the drama has got to fit the facts,
and it’s your job as a writer to find the shape in real life."
Hilary Mantel

Flora, Indoors & Out

My monstrous jasmine, grown from a tiny cutting taken at my parents' house quite a few years ago now, is at the peak of its annual bloom. The sunny, warm days caused the starry flowers to send their scent forth all over the inside of the Lodge. The Chap and I are constantly commenting on the fragrance. Nature's air freshener!

Meanwhile, outdoors in the garden, my snake's head fritillary is also peaking, quite a bit earlier than usual.

Yesterday I spotted the elusive phoebe--a pair of them--swooping over earth, snapping up flying insects.
